The National Livestock Development Board organized the first ever Volleyball Tournament – 2011 and the overall winner at this event was Melsiripura farm. Whilst Mahaberiatenne farm became the runner-ups, Siringapatha farm was able to secure the third place.
The trophy for the best player at this tournament was awarded to Mr. Sisira Kumara of Melsiripura farm while the trophy for the Best Ball Spinner was won by Mr. Saman Kumara also from Melsiripura farm. Sportsman, Mr. Jackson Nirmal became the winner as the Best Attacker at the same tournament.
At this tournament, the team of players that won the first place, was awarded with Mountain bicycles and valuable certificates, whilst the team that won the second place, was awarded with mobile ’phones and certificates. The team that secured the third place was awarded with cheques to the value of Rs. 60,000/-.
The Finals of the Inter-Farm Volley Ball Tournament was held in grand scale at the Indoor stadium of the Jeyaraj Fernandopulle Memorial Grounds at Kadulkelle, Negombo in the presence of a large gathering. Hon. NImal Lansa, the Minister for the Western Provincial Council and NLDB Board Director, Mr. Manoj Gamage were among the large number of distinguished guests who were spectators at this event.
